How to Get High End Interiors on a Budget
How to Get High End Interiors on a Budget
Everyone has a specific amount of money available to them when purchasing and decorating a home. This is your budget. There are a few tricks of the trade I have learned over the years that can help you stretch those budgets!
Hire professionals to make sure it is done right the first time
If you pay a professional to do a job nine out of ten times it will be done better than attempting to do the task yourself. In the long run this will save you time and money. Today there are so many television shows that make us think everything happens within budget and on time and easily. Remember a lot of that is ‘TV magic’, and so many things happen behind the scenes that we don’t see, this unfortunately, is not how real life happens. Don’t be fooled! Decorating, remodeling, and construction are all full time jobs!! Trying to do it yourself while juggling your own career can be extremely overwhelming and time consuming. There are affordable ways to make sure your ideas are executed and your budget is respected. I suggest hiring a designer or design firm, like myself, who works with contractors regularly in your area. This person can over see things like painting, lighting, and light construction. Depending on the scope of the project you might not need an architect or engineer to get involved, but if you need heavy construction done I would also consult with professionals in those fields.
Recovering sofas and chairs, changing out knobs, and/or painting existing furniture can drastically change older items and save you thousands of dollars! Adding antiques to a space also adds character and charm. The refurbished pieces are always well liked because they are one of a kind and cannot be replicated. The perfect pair of chairs or tables is worth investing in. It can add a hint of regal flair to a room.
Invest in “One of A Kind Textiles”
Wallpaper and fabrics can make or break a space. There is a layering of solids, prints, geometric pattern, and floral that happens in an interior. This layering of pattern and color makes a space come to life! Well decorated spaces have a thought out pattern play and it is important to invest the time and money to set your space apart from that cookie-cutter look that can be found at big box stores. I like to invest in nice pillows or accent chairs. A beige sofa can easily be dressed up with the right colors and textiles. I always make sure the pillows are down filled and have hidden zippers.
Only Buy Things You Love
Decorating a home is all about acquiring things you love. So, don’t be in a huge rush to purchase items to fill a space. Save up for the items you truly love and enjoying seeing every, single day! Some items we will never be able to afford, but splurge on the coveted items when at all possible.
Don’t skimp on the Window Treatments
Just do it! Buy any beige sofa you want, but please don’t miss out on the windows. “The windows are the eyes of a house”. I am not sure who said that, but I do believe dressing up windows can make or break your space. Custom window treatments are not cheap, but they will truly take a space from basic to amazing. They are not only practical for privacy and sunlight but, they can drastically improve your living quarters. It’s important to take the time to have a professional measure and install whatever treatment you choose so you are happy with your long term investment.
Choose art wisely and replace lighting
Great Art can make or break a space. I suggest doing a series of art or a large piece to make a focal point in the room. Large mirrors are also a great idea to reflect light and create more space. I always lean on going large as opposed to being on the safe side. The lighting is the jewelry in the room and can also serve as a cool focal point if you have a lot of windows or smaller space on the walls.
