Chicago Tropical 1st Birthday Party
Planning a Baby Party in Chicago?
Last August we had a Tropical Baby Party for my daighter Zella at ‘Dive Bar’ in Lakeview East. I am not sure where the time went, but now we are on the cusp of Zella turning two so I thought I better get the blog post up! Most of the party accessories are from Etsy and Olive Juice made the floral crowns, flowers, and balloon installation. My good friend Lydia gave me the cute bloomers for Zella and made that amazing Òmbre pink cake. Photos by Heather Talbert

During the Chicago winter months Chicagoans tend to hibernate and watch an uncomfortable amount of Netflix. In my twenties, I use to rush to the gym in January and even tried a juice cleanse from Karyn’s one year. Now that I am in my thirties, I typically work on becoming a better person, organizing my personal/professional life and making relationships better… blah blah blah. This year during a Netflix binge, I watched a documentary on Minimalism. This type of minimalism isn’t to be confused with the art movement that started in the 60’s. This new meaning of ‘minimalism’ is a yuppy style of living that seems to be a counter movement to the unnecessary indulgence of the 1990’s I grew up with. “It’s simply getting rid of things you do not use or need, leaving an uncluttered, simple environment and an uncluttered, simple life. It’s living without an obsession with material things or an obsession with doing everything and doing too much. It’s using simple tools, having a simple wardrobe, carrying little and living lightly.” – Joshua Fields Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus
